PLEASE CLICK THIS BENIGN DECOY PHOTO TO BE LED TO THE REAL PHOTO…      did you just feel that? this photo truly packs a punch. but the baby’s expression is cloaked in ambiguity. it COULD be interpreted as purely innocent glee.          in this scenario, this baby could be joyously welcoming the smaller baby (lack of a body and all). perhaps, the baby loves the other baby NOT IN SPITE of his differences BUT BECAUSE of them. in this version, the BTCOB lifestyle displayed would remind us to be advocates for tolerance and outreach. the baby is recognizing the body-less baby’s need to be taken care of and does not hesitate to tap into his altruistic nature and to do so with a goofy grin to put the other baby at ease.             but then again, the marker strokes on the baby’s head indicate some signs of abuse and the way in which the big baby is gripping the head baby seems unnecessarily aggressive, which is incredibly disconcerting. i wanted to give that baby the benefit of a doubt but i’m pretty positive that baby just ripped the head off of another baby.               in which case, this is the COMPLETE ANTITHESIS to BTCOB. i do not condone this kind of behavior. use this unfortunate case as a cautionary tale to protect the others who need to be taken care of.

a baby reflects…

        today we celebrate a holiday which honors mothers. you may not instantly see how the relationship between mother and child fits into a BTCOB (babies taking care of babies) framework because there appears to be a clear hierarchy with the mother being the dominant person in the relationship. many of you must think that the BTCOB philosophy is only applicable when both parties are regarded as babies of comparable physical stature, intelligence, and socioeconomic status.

        however, it is not that simple. in an effort to grasp at a complete understanding of BTCOB, we often resort to reductive explanations that may be attributed to the need for convenience and not a lack of awareness. but i digress…

        it is undeniable that when we babies first come into the world, we are usually being taken care of more than we are able to take care of. but as we move forward into new phases of babyhood, we can finally see that our mothers are also babies who need to be taken care of. seriously.

        so take a moment to stop cooking imaginary scrambled eggs in your playskool kitchen set and call your mother (the baby who took care of you before you were even a true baby).

there are several stages of development in babies who take care of one another. early on, there is a critical imprinting period in which the neuroplasticity of the brain is so heightened that the babies absorb knowledge like whoa. if babies do not learn to take care of each other within this precious window of opportunity, it is tremendously rare for them to ever be able to do so. during the imprinting period in my own life, i was blessed enough to receive TYCO’s “Quints” dolls. i’m positive that my ability to take care of my baby peers would have suffered had it not been for these 5 tiny baby dolls who enlightened me beyond measure.
